Happy Birthday, Gilbert!!  God’s blessings to you on

    your special day!!!!

Nomination ballots for Elder and Deacon are due TODAY.  Please return them to church and put them in the ballot box by the end of today.  If you did not receive yours or if you did not receive enough ballots, please see a current elder or Pastor Todd to get more.

Another record was set this year at over $125,000 raised during the Sheepgate Ministries Golf Marathon!!  It was a great day of golf and fellowship.  A big thank you to everyone that supported me to contribute to the success of this fundraiser!!             Kyle Adams

If you have not had a chance to purchase a snack/drink for Youth for Christ, you’re welcome to put a financial donation in the envelope in the kitchen and whatever is still needed will be purchased for you.  Checks can be written to Women’s Ministry. THANK YOU!!!  If you have questions, please contact Janet Overbergen at 780-6567.  Thank you for blessing this ministry in this way!!

Joe Brummel will be taking some Central College students to Love Packages in Illinois during their fall break to do some volunteer work for them.  They would like to take along any Bibles and/or Christian literature that we are no longer using.  As you rummage through your house (and the church), if there is anything you’re willing to donate, please have it at the church by October 10th.  They do not accept records, cassette tapes, Guideposts, secular books or Mission magazines.  There is a box in the entryway for your contributions.  Thank you!!!

Lake View Camp invites everyone on Saturday, October 29th for a Fall Camp Fun Day! This camp fundraiser will start off with a 5K Trail Run/Walk ($25 pre-registration / $35 on race day) at 9:00am followed by fall fun activities from 10:00am until 2:00pm ($5/person). Activities include canoeing, fishing, mini obstacle course, hay bales, crafts, mini golf, and more! Fun for the whole family! More details at lakeviewconference.com/blazingthetrails. (Pre-registration is encouraged for the 5K Trail Run but not required. No pre-registration needed for the Fall Camp Fun Day.)   We are also looking for volunteers for that day to help with the various activities - individuals, youth groups, Bible Study groups, etc.  Anyone interested in helping should contact the camp office at 628-2160.

Ebenezer friends,                We ask for prayers for Blue Mango that the office staff and supervisors will be able to take on more and more responsibility as Tamar hands the running over more and more.  She would like to concentrate more on design and new markets.  Also, prayers that the web site will generate lots of online sales.         For the clinic, we ask for prayers that the government will finally give permission to continue getting foreign funds to pay the staff salaries.  The government has temporarily blocked this permission which used to be given regularly.         We also ask for prayers as Tamar and I prepare for a special 3 month assignment to Madagascar in February of 2023 where I will be teaching Malagasy doctors new techniques and giving updates on medical knowledge and Tamar will work with income generation, either with impoverished women or with young prisoners in the jails.         Thanks for praying for us.   Sincerely, Bruce & Tamar De Jong

It is always possible to be grateful for what is given rather than resentful over what is withheld.  One or the other will become a way of life.

    -Elizabeth Elliot

We have the opportunity to bless the ministry of Youth for Christ by providing snacks/drinks for their Club meeting on Wednesday evenings.  They expect 35-40 kids each week, so you can imagine the amount of food and drink a group like that consumes!!  There is a sign-up sheet in the entryway for you to indicate what you’re willing to provide.  When you bring the items, please place them in the tote in the kitchen.  If you prefer to make homemade items, please have them at church by October 2.  If you prefer to make a financial donation for items to be purchased, there is an envelope in the tote where you can place them.  Checks can be written to Women’s Ministry.  If you have questions, please contact Janet Overbergen at 780-6567.  Thank you for blessing this ministry in this way!!

Update from Love, INC:  Summer is winding down and fall schedules are here.  The newsletter is on the table in the entryway.  If you’re interested in volunteering at their Mahaska Connect event, please sign up on their website. A flyer with additional information on volunteering is also available on the table in the entryway.  This year they are also able to offer an Expungement Clinic through Iowa Legal Aid at the Mahaska Connect event. This allows some prior convictions, if allowed, to be removed from their record. Many times, this becomes a barrier to employment and housing resources.

Thank you!!!

Arlan Van Haaften’s family invites you to a celebration of his 90th birthday next Sunday, September 4.  They will be serving cake following the Morning Worship service.  Please plan to join the celebration of this milestone in Arlan’s life.

There is a sign-up sheet in the entryway if you are willing to bring snacks for 15 people for the Community Coffee held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month.  This sign-up is for September – December.  Your generosity and help with this outreach are much appreciated by Women’s Ministry as well as the attendees of this community social event.  Thank you!!

You all are invited to a fellowship event at the church on Saturday, September 10 starting at 3:00.  It is then that The University of Iowa Hawkeyes will be taking on the Iowa State University Cyclones in a classic football rivalry.  Come and join in cheering on your favorite team.  Or, if football is not your thing, come and enjoy the time of fellowship - maybe bring a favorite board game or two.  It would be great if you would bring a tailgating dish to share.  Feel free to invite a friend or two to join us.

Sheepgate Ministries, formerly Teen Challenge of the Midlands, is holding their 25th annual golf marathon fund raiser on Monday, September 12.  Kyle Adams will once again be participating.  If you would like to sponsor him, please sign up in the entryway and give the money to him prior to September 12, if possible.  He has a personal goal of raising $2000, so any help towards that is much appreciated by him and by the many people helped by Sheepgate Ministries.

Women’s Ministry Council encourages you to choose to attend “The Power of the Word” retreat Thursday, September 22, hosted by the Bible League Volunteers.  Ebenezer’s Women’s Ministry will not be having a retreat this year.  Remember last year how we were blessed while attending a women’s retreat August 28 at the Lake View Camp with guest speaker Alicia Bruxvoort encouraging us to pursue Jesus?               This year women plus husbands, yes, men and women are invited on Thursday September 22, 9:30 – 3:30 to Calvary Church, Pella.  We will be captivated as we hear Mike & Lynn Wilder former Mormons now Bible believing Christians share of how they found their way into the loving arms of Jesus’ grace.  It will be a special privilege to hear about God’s power, love, mercy, and grace saving Mike, Lynn and their family.              Tickets are available for $40.00 for a single registration and $70.00 for a married couple registration.  Registration deadline is September 12.  Sign up soon at bibleleague.org/tickets or phone Judy Vander Wall at 708-367-8546 (8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).  This includes attendance and a delicious noon meal.  There are registration forms on the table in the entryway also.

There is a book on the table in the entryway written by Lynn Wilder.  It is about her and her

family’s journey in Mormonism.  Please feel free to take it and read it and pass it on to someone else.

The mark of an effective church is not how many people come but how many people live differently as a result of having been there.
