Saturday, December 25 is Viola Caldwell's birthday.

Happy Birthday, Viola, and God bless you on your special

    day!!

A big THANK YOU to all who participated in the activities last Saturday.  Over 75 cars drove by the live Nativity, the Lions Club Soup supper was well attended and Mobility World Wide will be blessed by generous donations.     Thank You

    Thanksgiving offering was $45,728.44.

Don't forget your Birthday for Jesus donation.  See how many ornaments we can hang on the tree in the church entry.

At our November 14 Special Congregational meeting we voted on whether or not to begin the process of evaluating our denominational affiliation.  The vote was non-binding on our future decision but it gives the Consistory an idea of where the congregation stands.  The vote was 65-3 in favor of beginning the process.  In the next few months, the Consistory will be working to discern with whom we will be affiliated in the future.  Thank you for your continuing prayer support.

Please help us save on heating costs in the church.  If you are in the church basement during the week, PLEASE make sure the door going up the steps is completely closed when you leave. Thank you!!!

JoAnn De Cook passed away on Thursday, Dec. 9. Her service will be at the Bridge in Johnston at 2:00 on Tuesday with her committal at Evergreen Cemetery north of Leighton at 4:00.  The family will be joining friends at our church for a coffee time following the committal.  Steve's address is 8950 NW 62nd St, Johnston, IA  50131.

From Love INC - We currently have an opening for our Resource Center Coordinator position. This position is essential to the Love INC ministry.  This individual must possess a passion for helping our neighbors and the Church using Redemptive Compassion. The Resource Center Coordinator trains and equips volunteers to meet with our neighbors needing assistance, hear their stories and needs, assess and clarify their needs and sustainability, and provide information, referrals and recommendations to staff. It is a 24-32 hour/week position. (There is an application form on the table in the entryway if you know someone who is interested.) A complete job description is available at the Love INC office. Please be in prayer as we seek God's will regarding this position.         Susan Doolan

Update from Love INC - I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. There has been much happening through the Love INC ministry. We have completed the fall session of Foundations classes, the Thrift Shoppe is up and running, and Mahaska Connect was a great outreach opportunity to name a few.  I am sad to announce that Joy, our Resource Center Coordinator, will be moving soon. She has been a great asset to the ministry for the last few years, but she and her husband are being called to a different location now. As a result, we currently have an opening for our Resource Center Coordinator position.

Because of the empty tomb, we have peace. Because of His resurrection, we can have peace during even the most troubling of times because we know He is in control of all that happens in the world.

At our annual meeting, the following were elected as elder: Robert De Jong and Tom Kruseman.  The following were elected as deacon: Ed Bogaard and Steve Nunnikhoven.  At our special meeting last Sunday, the Belief Statement was accepted and Consistory will start the process for deciding our future denominational affiliation.

There is a devotional in your mailbox that you can begin using today for your family devotions during the Advent season.

TODAY - Remember to get your tickets reserved for Festival of Tables.  See Janet Overbergen in the basement today or call her this week at 780-6567 or 626-3322.  December 7 - 6:00 is the important information to remember.  Tickets are $10.00.

The worship committee is hosting the live nativity again this year.  It will be held on Saturday night, December 11. We need people to be the characters.  It is our hope to have at least 2 teams of people to rotate every half hour to give those outside a chance to warm up.  If you would be willing to be one of the nativity characters, please sign up on the table in the front entryway.

It's that time of year again! Christmas is fast approaching and it's time to order poinsettias. Today is the LAST day! The signup sheet is on the table in the entryway. Cost is $10 and money can be put in the pouch next to the signup sheet.

Thursday, December 2, there will be a gospel concert "Miracle in the Stable" in the center court of Penn Central Mall from 6:30-7:30.

Every morning, lean your elbows on the window sill of heaven, and look into the face of God.
